TomTom has released the new TomTom GO x30 series. The new TomTom GO 730T device retains the styling of the current GO 720 series, but comes in a very sophisticated soft touch black with "real metal" detailing.
Not only are you getting new hardware, but there will be updated software to support it. The new software incorporates new junction graphics such as "Lane Separation" and "Complex Junction Details" similar to the Navigon Lane Assist launched a year ago, it also incorporates enhanced Voice Address Input, and possibly more important it now incorporates a new feature known as IQ routing.
The TomTom GO 730T combines the static historical data of TomTom IQ Routes™ with maps that incorporate daily updates via TomTom Map Share™ - the new range offers the most intelligent navigation on the market today.
The innovative IQ Routes™ technology is based on real average speeds that have been measured on roads, rather than static maximum speeds per road type. This means the new TomTom GO determines a route by considering all possible routes, and then selects the one that takes the least time. In almost 50 per cent of all journeys, this results in taking a different and faster route, saving the driver significant travel time - as well as saving money and fuel. |
In addition, the new TomTom GO features Advanced Lane Guidance - a first for the navigation mass market. Advanced Lane Guidance gives drivers a more realistic view and enhanced visual instructions of drivers’ surroundings, ensuring they are better informed about the situation ahead.
The TomTom GO 730T also features a new premium look with a high quality finish and expanded map coverage. The device comes preinstalled with the latest navigation features, including TomTom Map Share™ technology enabling users to make corrections to their own maps instantly, and to benefit from improvements made by other users, completely free of change. Latest map guarantee so users always have free access to the latest map at time of purchase. TomTom RDS-TMC Traffic Receiver gives detailed traffic information. Enhanced Positioning Technology (EPT) gives uninterrupted navigation even in tunnels or highly built areas.
The large 4.3 inch touch screen with new generation icons and an updated user interface to navigate drivers to their destination even more easily. Voice address input enables users to drive to cities and street names by simply announcing the address of their destination. Clear voice instructions and text-to-speech enable street names, places, traffic alerts and SMS messages to be read aloud as part of the spoken instructions.
Enhanced hands-free calling with high quality sound system via Bluetooth® to allow drivers to keep their eyes firmly on the road whilst making phone calls in the car. Extensive safety features include a "Help Me" menu to give drivers direct access to emergency services and roadside assistance. The built-in FM Transmitter plays music and navigation instructions seamlessly through the car stereo speakers. New smart & fun extras to personalise users’ devices are available, including recording your own driving instructions, viewing documents, exchanging positions via SMS and Bluetooth™ wireless technology and selecting a favourite car icon on the screen.
Free TomTom HOME software and content from the TomTom community is supplied to keep your TomTom device up to date at all times. The pre-installed safety camera database provides users with timely information on safety cameras on drivers’ routes.

The standard shortest route from London Commercial Road, to Gloucester Terrace at a relatively quiet time, and without any hold-ups, should take you 20 minutes (screen 1). |
| However, that same shortest route will typically take you 29 minutes during a busier period (reality) (screen 2). |
|
Using ‘local knowledge’ gained from the actual travel experiences of thousands of TomTom users on these very roads, IQ Routes™ instantly works out your optimal route from London Commercial Road, to Gloucester Terrace. It also calculates your realistic journey time, based on real speeds people are able to drive, not just speed limits. (screen 3)
As you can see, in this case your route is now 0.7 kilometre longer, but will save you 3 minutes (and a good deal of stress!). Now that’s a shortcut!

As soon as you’re through the junction, your screen reverts to the normal view. What could be simpler, what could be safer? |
| From 800 meters until you’re through the junction, your TomTom device displays a clear image of the junction. This shows the relevant road signs with numbers and directions, and a blinking arrow that clearly shows which lane you must take. Your screen throughout this has the still image and your status bar remains updated with dynamic information. |
| You have your normal 3D navigation view up to 800 metres from the junction. |
