Route 66 Maps FAQ
- Are these FAQ relevant to Route 66 Mobile 8 or Route 66 Navigate 7?
- No, these FAQ's are only for Route 66 latest software called Route 66 Maps (aka Mobile 9)
- Is the software subscription based or is it just a one off cost?
- It is a one off cost that is included in the package cost, so customers only pay once.
- Is the software server based (maps are stored on an internet server and downloaded on calculation of route) or are the maps store on the Phone/SD card?
- Both variants are available for the ROUTE 66 Maps S60 and WM software. Customers that purchase Route 66 Maps software from Easy Devices will have onboard software meaning that the phone doesnt have to go on to the internet and use the customers data bundle if they dont want to. But they can also use the software in online mode to download other map / map parts, according to their navigation needs. Once downloaded, the maps / map parts will be stored on the phone and will be available for subsequent navigation sessions.
- Which features attract network data charges?
- Customers can use the ROUTE 66 Maps product without any data charges. With ROUTE 66 Maps (Mobile 9) the basic components which need to be present on the handset so that the user can have access to the navigation mode are the Road Map and the Drive and Walk navigation. These items do not require an internet connection for operation.
- Traffic Information, Satellite Imagery and Weather info require an internet connection for the updates.
- Of course, if the application is used in online (off board) mode, the internet connection is necessary on a permanent basis to download the needed data for the routes calculated by the user.
- What is online (off board) mode?
- It is the mode in which the application communicates with the ROUTE 66 internet servers in order to retrieve the necessary data requested by the user when calculating and navigating on a route. For instance, the customer has the ROUTE 66 Maps application on the handset and wishes to use the application to navigate to a certain destination.
- If on the handset the corresponding map is not available onboard the phone, the user can switch to online mode and from that point on start using the application as if a map was available. The application will closely communicate with the servers to acquire the necessary data for that particular navigation scenario.
- If the software/maps are on the phone then is the license for lifetime?
- Yes
- What is 3D & Discover?
- 3D and Discover means 3D buildings and 3D Landmarks. When present on the device, this product populates the map with numerous 3D Landmarks and 3D Buildings, and is of real help for the users who want to discover a new city.
- Is this software compatible with my phone?
- If it is on the compatability list then that means Route 66 have tested it and happy to support it. If it is not listed but it meets the minimum requirements then it may work but Route 66 or Easy Devices cannot guarantee it therefore out with Distance Selling Regulations.
